The methodology of PLEEC

PLEEC project – running over 36 months - is structured into seven work packages.

Work Package 1 is dedicated to the coordination and management of the project consortium throughout the whole project life cycle in order to ensure an efficient and effective project management. 

In Work Package 2 (month 1 – 14) the PLEEC partner cities will be profiled with special consideration of their energy efficiency and use. Analysis of city key aspects such as renovation of building stock, energy systems, smart heating/cooling grids, smart electricity grids, water networks, efficient waste collection and treatment, recycling and energy use, efficient transportation and mobility systems etc. will show the cities´ performance with respect to the main characteristics of a “Smart City”.

In the next step, three parallel work packages (WP) will elaborate energy efficiency recommendations for the cities from three key perspectives:

The subject of WP3 (month 10 – 21) is technology-driven energy efficiency:

Therefore, in WP3 potentials of new technologies for smart energy systems will be identified. Thus, the leading role in this work package will be taken by the industry partners as they dispose of the resources and the knowledge.

WP4 (month 10 – 21) focuses on structure-driven energy efficiency :

It aims at identifying structure driven energy efficiency potentials within urban planning and city key aspects targeting at the question how well energy issues are integrated in the planning process and how different planning measures are integrated between each other. 

In parallel, WP5 (month 10 – 21) concentrates on behaviour-driven energy efficiency:

As energy efficiency depends heavily on the behavior of people, WP5 aims to identify the potential of energy use reduction from a behavior driven perspective. Therefore Best Available Practices (BAP) related to behavior driven potential in smart energy consumption will be exploited. 

Finally, in WP6 (month 21 – 36) the results from WP2, WP3, WP4 and WP5 will be integrated in the “model of sustainable city planning” and a “summary of the best matching recommendations” which will be provided for the cities as “Action plan for the energy-smart city”. Additionally, researchers will identify and present the future research agenda on the issue of energy-smart cities.

WP7 (month 1 – 36) will ensure decent dissemination of the project’s news and results.
